DRAGONS!

I love love love love love love love love love dragons! I don't like the ones that raze cities so much as the ones that live harmoniously with humans. I liked ones that are medium-sized (about the size of a horse or an elephant), not the ones that are so large they make the ground tremulous with every step. I prefer red, white, gold, or black for their scale color, bat or bird wings, minimal face and body spikes, and a beak or crocodile snout. There are many different types of dragons, but I like fire ones best. In Harry Potter, my favorite dragon is the Chinese Fireball.

What was my favorite book out of the 4 we just read?

It would have to be Little Bee. The second half of The Bell Jar was noisome while reading it with all the depressing parts. Catcher, though not terrible, didn't have that much to it. Bean Trees was so memorable that I had to think for a moment on what the 4th book was, which tells you how much I liked that book too. I did not stay impassive while reading any of them, but Little Bee tugged at my emotions in a moving, not crushing way.

What was my favorite book that I had to read for high school?

Thinking retrospectively, I believe my favorite book was The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, which I read for summer reading. To use candor, the beginning of the novel was extremely boring, but after breaking through the rough start, it became an intriguing mystery novel full of brain-stimulating circumstances and quirky characters.

Why do I like the Hunger Game series?

I like it because it makes me think about life and people and what I would do in Katniss's situation. I can't believe that so many people would acquiesce to the "hunger games," but reflecting on their government, I can see it is possible. They already had the gladiator battles in the olden days. The games are abject and terrible for the kids.

What do I want to be when I grow up?

I want to be a successful, published author and some other career having to do with biology and possibly technology. Ideally, I'd want to be both at the same time, and I hope that dream is not too quixotic. I've already started writing stories that I'd live to get published. Publication is a far ways away, still. Even know, I know that some people will put my story on the banned book list and expurgate my books from their school for "witchcraft" and "blasphemy" if/when I publish my book. Really, people need to remember that it is in fact fiction.

My favorite actress...

My favorite actress is Katya Lipovesky! This is because she’s my stage mommy! It’s really harrowing that she’s going to college next year because I won’t see her anymore then! (NOOOOOOOOOOOO T.T). I hope our Mommy-Son relationship will be immutable forever!

What do I think of the open gradebook?

I like it because I can keep track of my grades better. I don't have too much of a problem with my mom seeing my grades, as I tell her if I mess up tests anyways. I'm not sure if she even looks at the gradebook anyways. I can see how it would totally mess up other people's lives because they beguile their parents into thinking they have As when the kid is really failing. Some people might think that whoever thought up gradebook was a callous person since gradebook can ruin people's lives if they don't have good grades. I feel bad for those kids whose parents are tiger moms and mess up a bit and their parents come down on them.

If I could drop one class from my schedule...

It would probably be history because I vehemently dislike history in general. It also takes up most of my time. I will definitely not abide history my senior year. It's got to go then!

Macbeth's Curse

  • Where did this curse come from?
    •  Shakespeare included a witches brew in his story, and the people who did witch-practice were not amused. They supposedly cursed the play so it is very unlucky and bad things happen to it. You're not supposed to say the plays name in a theater.
  • Which ones were the most shocking from the list of terrible things that happened during the performances of Macbeth?
    • "1937 -- Laurence Olivier took on the role of Macbeth. A 25 pound stage weight crashed within an inch of him, and his sword which broke onstage flew into the audience and hit a man who later suffered a heart attack. In addition, the director and the actress playing Lady Macduff were involved in a car accident on the way to the theatre, and the proprietor of the theatre died of a heart attack during the dress rehearsal."
    • I think it's one of the most shocking because it had a lot of deaths or near deaths in one production.
  • If you had to avoid the curse, which strategy would you use?
    • I'd say, "Thrice around the circle bound, Evil sink into the ground." This is because I don't swear and if it's not outside, I'd rather not spit.
  • Do you believe that there is a curse?
    • No. This play just has higher risks of injury because of the swords. The people who watch it, at least in the olden days, would reasonably do as they did in reaction to the play or what the actors did. It's an old play, and as the years go by, unfortunate events are going to crop up. You could say that in our middle school, the mics cut out, so there's a curse on the play if other unfortunate things happened to other people doing the play, but it isn't a curse.

What did I think of the Oscars?

I did not watch the Oscars. I never have watched the Oscars, save for maybe a few minutes. I never will watch the Oscars for a long time... probably. If you forced me to watch the Oscars, I would probably start being very querulous until you finally retracted your demand for me to watch it. I would much rather be doing something else other than watching the Oscars. I implore you to not make any rash decisions when forcing me to watch the Oscars because you'd have to deal with a very whiny me. Weigh your options before you make me watch the Oscars! It's not worth it! Have I said "the Oscars" enough yet? In conclusion, the Oscars.

Stephen King Mini-stories

My favorite story was the one about the fat babysitter who farted in his face. I found it amusing that little Stevie would find amusement in that and that the babysitter would get Stevie to like her even though she was abusive. I liked this best because it was different than stories I've read before. A kid imagining himself as something different is pretty common. Death is a cliche topic as well. The messed up babysitter story was quirky and entertaining.

What was my favorite part of the superbowl?

I liked the half time show. That is also the only part I watched besides some commercials, since I was reading in the room that everyone else was in. My mom goaded me into staying in the same room as everyone else by nagging and demanding I stay in the family room. My dad was apparently very fastidious when inspecting Madonna, since he commented on every little slip up she made. That guy on the bouncing wire was awesome! Those acrobats were cool too.

My favorite day of the week...

That's a no-brainer! It's definitely Saturday. This is because I'm free to do whatever I want that day. I abhor Mondays because that's when school begins again and I have to go back to school again bright and early in the morning. On Sunday, I have to calibrate my brain to get prepared for Monday.

My hardest midterm will be...

I'm not sure, but it might be History or Chemistry... or Math. This is because I hardly have any rapport between me and any of those subjects. Actually, that's an exaggeration. It would be more accurate to say that I find them harder than other subjects because its just straight up boring memorization, but more so with History and Math. I find English to be the more salient midterms of them all because I do have the life goal of publishing a novel, and English classes help me complete that goal.

Describing my favorite movie...

I'm not sure what my absolute favorite movie is. It would be between Get Smart, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II, and Inception, so I'll just talk about Inception. In the movie, the confusing concept of inception is slowly elucidated and made pellucid by slowly revealing different elements of inception as they come up. Inception is the concept of implanting an idea into a target and making that idea grow into whatever the person who implanted the idea wanted. It works by traveling into the target's dream, falling asleep in that dream to go into the second level of dreaming, and then falling asleep in the second level dream to go to the third level dream. The third level dream is very deep into the target's subconscious, and here, Cobb and his teammates can implant ideas that the person will think of as their own. The idea is that the person in the dream can change and mold the target's mind into whatever they want.

Elements of Romanticism in Wuthering Heights

1. Focuses on imagination

This applies to Wuthering Heights where Cathy becomes "mad" and starts seeing things like the Heights off in the distance, whereas Nelly sees no such thing. The story pays attention to Cathy's hallucinatory sights, which pertains to the element of imagination, as the images are from Cathy's brain.

2. Common man

Cathy cannot marry Heathcliff because he is too much of a common man and therefore it would be below her to marry him. The whole problem of the novel is that Cathy loves Heathcliff but cannot marry him because he is a common man and instead marries Edgar and cannot go back on her marriage.

My holiday break...

My holiday break was nice. My aunt and uncle from Canada (they just moved there from China) came to visit as well as my other uncle and family friends. My aunt and uncle are the complete opposite from being libertines; they are Christian Missionaries! Nothing ignominious happened to me over the break. In fact, just the opposite happened! I won a bunch of Mah Zhong games! That's definitely not embarrassing!
